New Human Trafficking Awareness Sign Requirement

Posted in Latest News on March 18, 2016.

During the 2015 Legislative session, CS/HB 369 passed, which requires certain employers to display public human traffic awareness signs. Those affected include massage establishments that are owned by a person not licensed as a health care professional through the Department of Health.

Signs must be clearly visible to the public as well as employees, must be at least 8.5 by 11 inches in size, printed in 16-point font and must state the following in English and Spanish:

“If you or someone you know is being forced to engage in an activity and cannot leave—whether it is prostitution, housework, farm work, factory work, retail work, restaurant work, or any other activity—call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at 1-888-373-7888 or text INFO or HELP to 233-733 to access help and services. Victims of slavery and human trafficking are protected under United States and Florida law.”

Human Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery from which traffickers profit from the control and exploitation of others and the Department continues its efforts to bring awareness to this issue.
